Dyson DC25 Ball All Floors Vacuum Review

The Dyson DC25 All Floors upright vacuum cleaner (technically re-branded as the Dyson DC25 Multi Floors) is an extremely effective, powerful, and surprisingly lightweight vacuum. Currently the most popular model in the Dyson family of vacuum cleaners, the DC25 combines the best of what Dyson is known for: suction power, technology, and effectiveness at a fairly reasonable price of $399.

Before we get to our review of the Dyson Ball DC25, let’s take a quick look at the product specs:

Here is our Dyson DC25 review for the following categories:  Suction, Ease of Use, Durability, Filtration

Suction:

The suction power on the Dyson DC25 is really one of the strongest you will find on the market at any price of vacuum cleaner.  The machine produces 220 Air-watts of power, which puts the Dyson at the top of the class (please read our explanation on how to gauge suction power of a vacuum cleaner – you will be amazed at how errantly the manufacturers display ‘suction power’ on most vacuums).  On carpet, the Dyson is amazing and definitely has the ability to vacuum even the thickest of carpets.  However, note that if you have carpet with a pile height that is more than 1 inch, you may actually want to consult with your carpet manufacturer to see if they suggest using the Dyson.  While not as big of a problem with the DC25 vacuum cleaner vs the DC33 All Floors (which has higher suction ratings), you can still run into issues where the combination of the high suction and powerful beater bar can slightly damage extremely high carpet over time.

On hard floor surfaces (linoleum, hardwood, ect.) the Dyson also does a great job.  In fact, most people even claim that it literally sucks the dirt and dust from between the boards of their hard wood flooring.  However, there is one slight downside with the DC25 when it comes to hardwood floors – because the automatic height setting sets the vacuum low to the floor, larger things like Cheerios can end up being pushed around instead of sucked up.  Obviously, you can just use the hose or even just tilt the head back briefly though, so I don’t think this would be a deal breaker.

Ease of Use:

The DC25 Multi Floors by Dyson is a very easy-to-use machine.  The weight, at only 16.12 lbs, is very light.  In addition, the ‘Ball Technology’ helps you to maneuver very easy throughout your house.  By simply turning your wrist the machine moves left or right, making it so you don’t have to go through the same push/pull back routine that you normally do with a vacuum.  This decreases the pressure on your lower back and also should save you time vacuuming.  Some people find that the ball technology takes a day or two to get used to, but once you do you will be impressed.

In addition, transitioning from higher-pile carpets to lower-pile carpets and/or hardwood floors is also very easy.  You don’t have to bend over and adjust the beater-bar height yourself as the Dyson does this for you automatically.  And, while I’m normally not a fan of auto-adjusting heights on a vacuum cleaner, Dyson seems to have done a great job with this one.

Furthermore, the canister on the DC25 is very easy to empty – all you do is snap out and pick up the canister, then when ready you just push one button to empty it.  As with all bagless vacuums, some dust will escape as you dump the Dyson DC25 bagless container.  If you suffer greatly from allergies you will probably want to empty the container outside as a precaution.  One thing to remember – the canister size isn’t the largest I’ve seen, so you will probably have to empty this one a little more frequently than other vacuums (smaller container plus greater suction = more emptying).

One last thing – hose length.  Dyson really did a good job with this one.  The telescopic wand/hose really is ‘telescopic’ – you can reach almost 16 feet with the hose and attachments.  And, it’s extremely easy to get to the hose, as it pulls right out of the handle itself.  The only complaint that people have with the hose is that it is stiff when you first purchase it.  However, it doesn’t take long to break it in.

Durability:

How long will the Dyson DC25 All Floors vacuum cleaner last?  This can be a little difficult since Dyson is still a relatively newer brand here in the USA.  However, the vacuum does come with a five-year manufacturer warranty on both parts and labor, so that’s a good indication that the vacuum will last at least that long.  The vacuum itself is built out of very durable ABS and polycarbonate materials and is very sturdy.  Is it as sturdy as a Miele or an all-metal vacuum?  Probably not, but I think a 5-7 year life span is pretty decent given the price and filtration (see below) that you get with the DC25.

Filtration:

While not in the same class as the Miele S Series vacuums, the Dyson does a great job when it comes to filtration.  The vacuum is a sealed system, comes with a lifetime washable HEPA filter, and gained the British Allergy Foundation “Seal of Approval” – meaning the filtration is top notch.  In fact, while using the vacuum, the DC25 will make the air in your home up to 150 times cleaner than it was before.

One advantage that is very important to note – the Dyson filter is a LIFETIME, washable filter.  Many filters in lower-end brands do need to be replaced every 3-6 months.  So while the Dyson DC25 does cost more, you do at least save on those costs over the life of the vacuum (which can add up to hundreds of dollars).

Our Bottom Line Dyson DC25 Vacuum Review:

All in all, the Dyson DC25 All Floors (or Multi Floors) vacuum cleaner is one of the best you can buy.  It’s great filtration, ease of use, and suction power make it a great choice.  No, it’s not a vacuum that will last 20 years – but if you are looking for a great vacuum cleaner with great specs and a good 5-year warranty that will tackle almost any job you throw at it, then the DC25 is the way to go.

The biggest negative that we have to say about the vacuum is really the amount of times you will have to empty the cannister bin.  You really will have to empty this one more than other vacuum cleaners, but again that is a function of two things: slightly smaller bin size, and higher than average suction power.  However, many people like to empty my vacuum bin every time after vacuuming  anyways, so it may not be that big of an issue.
